Warning: Rant ahead.

My roommate and I are on opposite ends of the social spectrum.
She's had dozens of close friends her whole life; I've only had a few since high school (and a couple exceptions in middle school).
She was raised in a conservative, white home. (Not being racist, being real)
I was raised in a liberal, black home.
Apparently, there are some differences there, right? Right.

But wouldn't you feel insulted when ever time you mentioned something about your home or the way you were raised and your roommate feels "abashed" that someone would do that to their child? Wouldn't you feel like they're calling your parents barbaric?

Wouldn't you feel slighted every time you voice your opinion she says "I can't give my opinion around you because you shoot it down"? (ie. She asked if I liked white chocolate. I said no and pretended to gag. She said she liked it. I said "I don't." and she threw a fit saying I "cast her opinion out")

Wouldn't you feel like second-best if she blew you off every time you made plans to hang out in order to be with her boyfriend? And wonder why she's feeling insulted after you stop trying to hang out?

I feel all of those things listed above. And I'm tired of it. She accused me of not wanting to be her roommate next year, so all I will say is "Yes. I agree. We shouldn't be roommates next year because you make me want to punch not only myself, but you in the face."
I hate feeling like the "odd black girl from an odd black family" whenever I'm around her and my neighbors. I'm sick of being "the odd one out" because I've never done something they did. And I hate being looked at like I'm an idiot because I feel sleighted because someone made a racist comment towards me (when I don't make racist jokes w/o consent).
I'm also sick of having my roommate look at me as if I'm "a social failure" because I can't communicate my feelings well. I know I tend to be anti-social. I like that about me because it gives me time to think. I don't like being around the same people 24/7 and I don't like being judged just because I did something that YOU think is out of the ordinary.
I just...wanna get away from my roommate and neighbors for 3 months. THANK YOU SUMMER VACATION.
